1:1 Technology Updates

Fall 2014 Updates:

  • Students in 5th and 9th grade received their new laptops this fall.   Each  year, the technology department strives to obtain the most versatile, user friendly, and sturdy device for students that will last four years.  This year’s device is a windows based, touch screen device.  The students are enjoying the laptop!
  • All students in grades 5-12 are to have Windows 8.1 on their device.  The new devices already have this installed.  The rest of the students were provided the opportunity for upgrades since last spring.  If they have not gotten the upgrade, they need to stop in the tech office.
  • During the summer, the technology department complete some major networking upgrades making the wifi and networking capabilities much stronger.
  • Apple has changed some of their processes.  This project has taken consider time to get the devices ready for our K-4 students.

May 16, 2014 – Great News. This fall, Kindergartners and first graders will be using iPads in their classroom. The iPod Touches have been a great tool for our students; however, their life has come to an end. Their replacement will be an iPad! It is exciting to provide this device to the students.

October 21, 2013 – We understand that are issues with our school messaging system and are working to improve this. The vendor is attempting to resolve our issues and if this cannot be accomplished in a timely manner, we will change vendors.

October 7, 2013 – The 6th graders are now taking their laptops home. The sixth graders will begin taking their laptops home soon. It is important for families to continue to monitor student use of the laptops at home. Also, ENSC want to work in partnership with families. You are encouraged to create your own rules for home use of the laptops. Please feel free to inform your child’s teacher of any rules you have developed that the teacher needs to know. We are here to support you.

August 18, 2013 — This year, the fifth and sixth grade students will not be taking their laptops home at the start of the year. Teachers will be taking several weeks to work with students on Digital Citizenship, care for their laptop, and effective and productive ways to use their laptop.

Don’t forget, August 23 is the last day to sign up for theft/vandalism coverage.

August 4, 2013</strong> — As we start our third year of 1:1 technology, I want to take a moment to remind parents that we very much want to have a partnership with parents to ensure students are appropriately using technology and are safe in their use.  If you have any concerns about your child’s use and suspect they may be visiting inappropriate sites, please feel free to contact your child’s school.  The technology department can check your child’s history to see what sites they have been visiting, have they been using social media inappropriately, and other concerns you may have.  We also want you to know that you, too, have the authority to place a curfew on your child’s use of their laptop.  Just because they take the laptop home for their school work, does not mean they don’t follow your rules!  Feel free to set your own rules and guidelines for use.  Lastly, if you want your child’s computer to be restricted from use, we can “lock down” your child’s computer which will then limit their access to the internet.

ENSC wants to work with families to ensure students are using technology safely and productively to better develop their skills and enhance their learning.  Please feel free to contact the district with any questions you have.
