First Day of School

100_1401Today was the first school day to the 2013-2014 school year. As I visited each of our buildings, I noticed one common thread. Students of all ages were happy to be back in school. In addition to the happy students were excited teachers, secretaries, instructional assistants and the many other staff members who make this first day special for the East Noble School Corporation children and families.
During my 33 years in education, the first day has always been my favorite. It is such fun being around the students when they first see the changes in buildings, new staff member faces, using newly sharpened pencils, perfectly shaped crayons, starting a new box of tissue, helping a new teacher learn the “ropes,” and watching a senior guide a freshman to their classroom (correctly, by the way.)
As I walked the buildings and stopped in classrooms today, it was evident our teachers had spent days in their classrooms preparing the perfect bulletin boards to welcome students and covering their walls with many facts, tips, posters, and fun “stuff” to create a very positive and supportive learning environment.
While I am not ready for summer to be over, I always look forward to a good Friday night football game. Excited parents wearing their son’s number on their shirt, listening to proud grandparents brag about their granddaughter who is a cheerleader, and a band parent helping pull equipment onto the track are a stark reminder of the many exceptional and supportive families that are a part of ENSC.
I look forward to the many upcoming days of the 2013-2014 school year. Welcome back to school!
