As I write this on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, ENSC has called yet another closing for the day. This makes our sixth day of school we have missed since 2014 began. Ahhh….hopefully, this is not going to be a pattern for the entire winter.
I had lunch at the Kendallville Wendy’s yesterday and someone said, “you don’t have to worry about a vote for year round school. With all of the closings you are going to be in school all summer.” That statement, of course, started some opposing discussion from someone else on year round school. Let me just say, we are NOT pursuing year round school! However, if this weather doesn’t improve, we may see our students in school well into June!
As allowed by State Superintendent Ritz, ENSC has applied for the make up day waiver for January 6 and 7. We have not received official approval; however, we have reason to believe the waiver will be approved. If those days are approved, we will need to make up January 8, 9, 10, and 21. (January 20 was a make up day for January 8 but got canceled.) These four days will be made up as follows:
Our challenge is this….graduation is June 7. That leaves us with just two days (and maybe Good Friday) as potential make up days without having seniors return following graduation. The alternative is to move graduation to Saturday, June 14.
We will continue to be cautious when cancelling school, but always ensuring our students are safe.
If you are a senior or senior parent, we are considering moving graduation, but also other alternatives!
